RIVER LIFE PHOTO COMPETITION

To celebrate an exciting month on our wonderful stretch of the River Thames, we’ve teamed up with the River and Rowing Museum and Hobbs of Henley to encourage all budding photographers (young, old, amateur or experienced) to capture and share their RIVER LIFE photos in July.

The Henley Royal Regatta and the Henley Festival will help to provide wonderful photo opportunities too!

There is an impressive collection of local prizes and every person that enters will receive a FREE pass to the River & Rowing Museum.

How to Enter

Competition closes on 20th July and will be judged by a panel of experts; Jonathan Hobbs (Royal Waterman), Lynne Lambourne (Sustainability Ambassador), Sarah Winckless (British Olympic rower) and Caroline Gratrix (Professional Photographer).

A pop up exhibition featuring the finalists’ photos will be hosted at the River and Rowing Museum throughout August and all entrants featured will be invited to an opening event at the River and Rowing Museum on Thursday 1st August 2024, where the overall winners will be announced.

River Life Photo Competition Terms and Conditions

  1. Entries to the Photo Competition are free and open to everyone except employees of Val Wyatt Marine, the River and Rowing Museum and Hobbs of Henley.
  2. By entering the Competition the entrant agrees for the photo to be used on the company’s (Val Wyatt Marine, the River and Rowing Museum and Hobbs of Henley) website, social media pages or promotion material.
  3. By entering the photo competition the entrant agrees that they have permission of anyone in the photo or their parents or legal guardian to use the photo in the ways mentioned above.
  4. The Competition runs between 1st – 20th July 2024.
  5. Entry into the competition is acceptance of these Terms and Conditions.
  6. Each entrant may enter up to a maximum of ten images in the competition.
  7. Entries must be in digital format only – no prints or slides will be accepted.
  8. Entrants need to share their photo on Instagram and / or Facebook and tag @valwyattmarine, @riverandrowingmuseum and @hobbsofhenley as well as use the hashtag #RiverLife2024
  9. Entries can also be emailed to [email protected]
  10. Entries must be free from text and photographer’s watermarks
  11. Your details will not be passed on to any third party without your permission.
  12. All photographs submitted must be the work of the individual who submits them.
  13. Entrants must ensure that photographs have been taken with the permission of the subject (where necessary) and do not infringe the copyright of any third party.
  14. By submitting a photograph to this Competition entrants agree that Val Wyatt Marine reserves the right to free reproduction and exhibition of the image in all media to promote either Val Wyatt Marine, the River and Rowing Museum or Hobbs of Henley.
  15. Photographers will be credited if an image is used. The copyright of photographs remains with the photographer.
  16. All images must be taken of the River Life (by the River Thames, on the River Thames or wildlife featured in or on the River Thames).
  17. Images of wildlife must be taken in the natural environment or in their natural habitat. Please take care to avoid damage to the environment in the process of your photography and stay at a safe distance from the water’s edge.
  18. Digital adjustments are acceptable; the way in which any digital enhancement or editing has been used will be taken into account when judging the entry. However, major changes of content and AI created images are not allowed.
  19. Judges appointed by Val Wyatt Marine, the River and Rowing Museum and Hobbs of Henley will choose the final 15 images by 22nd July 2024.
  20. The organisers’ decision on all matters relating to the Competition is final, and no correspondence will be entered into concerning the Competition’s judges and organisation.
  21. The three categories are Junior (5-12 years), Teen (13 – 17 years) and Adult (18+ years).
  22. The prizes include a skippered Interboat day trip with Val Wyatt Marine on an agreed date with the winner, a hamper by Pavilion, a two course lunch for two with a bottle of wine at The Realis, Henley, a gin experience with The Henley Distillery, a smartphone photography lesson with Viva Photography, a SUP Lesson for two with Go with the flo paddleboarding, one family membership Tumblestone Hollow and tickets to Regal Picturehouse cinema in Henley.
  23. The 15 finalists will have their photo featured within a pop up exhibition at the River and Rowing Museum, running from 1st – 29th August 2024.
  24. The finalists will be invited to the opening evening at 5pm on 1st August 2024.
  25. The overall winners, 1st, 2nd and 3rd per category, will be announced at the finalist drinks evening on 1st August 2024.
  26. If the potential winner cannot be contacted or is contacted and does not respond 24 hours after the winner is announced, refuses the prize, is ineligible to accept the prize or does not otherwise comply with the entry rules, the prize may be forfeited and awarded to an alternate winner
  27. All successful entrants will receive a free day pass to the River and Rowing Museum. The free day pass needs to be collected and redeemed by 30 September 2024.

  29. All entries are sent at the photographer’s risk. Val Wyatt Marine regret that they cannot accept liability for any loss or damage of any images entered in the competition (however caused) nor for any other loss or damage resulting therefrom.
