Ideal for longer stays on board, aft cabin boats tend to feature a bright, airy saloon with large windows and a front double cabin with a second ensuite or day head. They are also best suited for shaft-drives with engines positioned under the saloon. Cabin boats tend to offer a quieter place to sleep as the stern of the boat is less affected by wave noise in most cases.

Offshore
Offshore aft cabin boats are built for extended journeys and more challenging conditions at sea. Many feature reinforced hulls and strong frames for added durability, while some may include deeper keels for stability. In extreme cases, vessels can have self-righting hulls, though these are uncommon and not typical of the boats we sell. Many offshore models are fitted with twin engines, offering extra power, control, and reliability. These well-constructed seagoing cruisers often include advanced navigation and safety features, providing confidence and capability for longer voyages.
Inland
Inland aft cabin boats are built to navigate inland rivers and estuaries with total ease. The shallower drafts and lighter construction are ideal for easy manoeuvrability in calm, inland waterways. Inland aft cabin boats are built for sheltered waters and designed for manoeuvrability and shallow drafts. On the other hand, offshore aft cabin boats are sturdier and built to withstand more challenging conditions such as rough seas and long distances. The size of your perfect boat will depend on your intended use, the number of people you plan to have on board, and your storage and comfort needs. Smaller boats are ideal for day trips or inland waters, whereas larger boats are better for offshore cruising and entertaining larger groups of people.
As a general rule of thumb, if you take your mooring fee, and double it, that will typically be the average cost for looking after your boat each year. This includes insurance, licences, maintenance, wear and tear repairs, and a fair amount of fuel, assuming you’re sailing on sheltered waterways and not offshore powerboating.
Your boat will require regular maintenance to ensure it continues to perform optimally. This includes routine engine checks, hull inspections, cleaning, and upkeep of safety equipment. In the winter months, your engine and domestic water systems may need to be winterised by a qualified marine engineer, and you may also want to cover your boat to protect it from adverse weather.
The level of safety equipment you need will depend on whether you are boating on inland waterways, coastal waters, or further offshore. As a minimum for coastal boating, it is essential to have life jackets for each person on board, a fire extinguisher, a sound-signalling device such as a whistle or horn, a well-stocked first aid kit, navigation lights, and an anchor. Additional equipment, such as flares, a VHF radio, and bilge pumps, is recommended for extended or offshore trips.
We only offer moorings on the River Thames. Our moorings have been full for the last few years, and the current waiting list is reserved for customers who have purchased a new boat through us. If you are buying a boat through Val Wyatt Marine, it’s still worth asking about mooring availability, as spaces can become available. On the South Coast, while we don’t provide moorings directly, we are happy to offer advice and help you find suitable berthing options.
We are selective about the boats we offer for brokerage and have set criteria to ensure we only offer vessels of the highest quality, achieving the best possible outcome for vendors and buyers. It’s therefore best for potential vendors to contact us to discuss their boat before listing.
We specialise in glass-fibre motorboats from £25,000 up to £750,000. While our lifting facilities at Wargrave have restrictions, we can accommodate vessels up to 42 feet in length and 14 tonnes in weight. We will be fully transparent about the asking price and will only encourage you to list with us when we are confident we can secure excellent value. If we are unable to assist, we are happy to recommend a trusted alternative broker.
